An Alternate Way of Giving at Christmas Time

Christmas is coming!  It's around the corner and the stores are advising us to "buy, buy, buy"!

What an exciting time, especially for those with little children and celebrations with family and friends.  Buying gifts can be fun but with so many in need around the world, it can be overindulgent and sometimes meaningless.

This year, I invite you to share ideas and participate in alternative Christmas ideas, using a table in the fellowship hall.  Bring pamphlets, ideas and "new" ways to share this "season of giving".

Perhaps "giving" immunizations to babies in Ethiopia or mosquito nets to children around the world, could be your gift to a daughter, son or grandchild? A chick, heifer or cow to a family in Africa or a bicycle for transportation in Central America, could add meaning to the idea of true giving.  Books for education, a sewing machine or money toward clean water or a well can help impoverished, marginalized people around the world.  UMCOR has many ways, as do other agencies such as Compassion, United Way or Child Fund.  What better way to teach compassion & giving than helping a child to learn what true gifting is about. As a giver, you also become a receiver, by knowing that you have helped save & change another's life in a positive, Christian way.  Merry Christmas :)
